Because skydiving on a team has been an emotionally rewarding experience for each of the girls, they now aim to build on past success to become a nationally recognized competitive force, hoping to break down traditional attitudes that can keep women out of the forefront of extreme sports. However skydiving is one of the most expensive sports for which to prepare, since there is no way to train without paying for an airplane ride. For example, in 2005 the Furies could afford to make 250 training jumps, and even after a considerable sponsorship from their home drop zone, Skydive Chicago, these jump tickets alone cost the team more than $10,000. Add to this out of pocket expenses such as competition fees, coach, gear maintenance, wind tunnel training, parachute packing, and other essentials, and competing seems impossible for a couple of regular girls from Chicago with 9-to-5 jobs. It is often said that in four-way, the team with the biggest budget usually wins, but the Furies plan to find a way around the stigma so that other "regular girls" will not shy away from competing simply because there is no example to follow.

Current Sponsors: 2010 Season

The following are sponsors for the Skydive Chicago Furies 2010 season. We appreciate your help!

Becoming a Sponsor

Sponsoring the Skydive Chicago Furies not only shows your support for women in skydiving, but also offers exposure as an advocate of girls in all extreme sports and adventure activities. In return for promotion as you see fit, we are always in need of both financial assistance and simple in kind contributions that will help us shave off pennies off our expenses.

Unique Partnership and Endorsement

The Skydive Chicago Furies are colorful, casual, and approachable in their attitudes, but serious in their training. They're not your everyday four-way team! The team also includes two riggers and a representative of ParaConcepts, Skydive Chicago's gear dealership, which gives you access to the first line of endorsement for anyone asking for advice about gear.

New Market

Some say it's retro, making a comeback, others say it has always been the most important thing for skydivers to learn. Either way, formation skydiving is gaining credibility among the younger generation. At Skydive Chicago alone, there were twice as many active four-way teams in 2005 as there were in 2004, and there has already been talk at other regional DZs of teams forming "to try and beat the Furies." The Skydive Chicago Furies represent a younger face of formation skydiving, and while the market is saturated with freefly-targeted marketing, the new serious FS jumper is looking for guidance in gear choices as well.

Exposure

The Furies are highly visible at Skydive Chicago, which is not only one of the nation's largest drop zones, but it's also one of the busiest and most central. With financial hardship plaguing many small midwestern drop zones, jumpers flock to Skydive Chicago from all over Illinois and the six surrounding states every weekend. Add to this the number of visitors for boogies, competitions, and other events, and just about every American skydiver passes through SDC at some point. Away from home, the Furies not only travel to the major Midwestern DZs for competition, they visit Florida regularly for training, are heading to Arizona for Nationals, and are represented in Mexico for the entire winter.

Future

The girls of the Skydive Chicago Furies have worked through three years of figuring out four-way, and their skill and hard work have begun to pay off. This season continues the girls' serious push for national recognition - you will hear about the Skydive Chicago Furies for years to come!

Support at all levels is welcome and appreciated!
